Women’s Basic Handgun was developed by women, for women, to deliver fundamental skills and knowledge in a judgement-free environment, tailored to the way women prefer to learn. That is, we start by introducing a variety of fundamental topics from “reasons we learn to shoot”, to “the best stance for effective shooting”, and “which eye to use for best accuracy”. Specifically, we discuss and illustrate how and why each skill helps you be safer, shoot better, and train more effectively. Then, you go hands-on. Starting with dummy guns to establish your grip and stance, then switching to real guns and real ammunition, shooting at targets.

Of course, we recognize that there are many possible reasons people learn how to shoot. Whatever your “why”, we will help you be safe and develop confidence while you learn to meet or exceed your goals.

Women’s Basic Handgun provides a safe, but casual learning experience, free of the judgment and critical review many have come to expect of our male dominated industry. The pace of each class will be determined by how quickly students are comfortable progressing.

[Important: If you do not already have a handgun, please contact your instructor for accommodations prior to signing up.]

What to bring for Women’s Basic Handgun

Required for each WOMEN’S Basic Handgun student

  • Great attitude, willingness to have fun, and eagerness to learn!
  • Handgun: If you have more than one, you are welcome to bring multiple. If you do not have one, please email me after you sign up. I have rentals available at very reasonable rates.
  • Head gear: Hat, ball cap, or other brimmed head-wear to protect you from the sun and potential flying/floating debris.
  • Eye protection: Shooting glasses, prescription glasses, sunglasses, or other suitable tempered protective eyewear.
  • Hearing protection: Ear plugs or ear muffs are required. Electronic ear muffs are preferred, for those who have access to them.
  • Footwear:  Closed-toed, comfortable shoes. We will be standing a lot. Bring something comfortable, with a thick enough sole to protect your feet while walking on expended brass, gravel and/or dirt.
  • Ammunition: At least 100 rounds for each gun you plan to fire.
    • Bring what you can… If you do not have your own firearm, please let me know in advance, so I can bring ammunition for your purchase.
    • Important: If you have issues obtaining ammunition, contact me for more options; at least 3 days prior to class.

!! Hint … If you do not already own listed gear, and you do not want to buy everything right away, please let me know.  I have a limited supply of loaner or rental gear I can bring for you.

Highly recommended For Women’s Basic Handgun:

  • Equipment: Any additional equipment you may have (speed loaders, extra magazines, holsters, etc.)
  • Cool drinking water. We will be working outside. Regardless of the weather, you will need to be drinking to stay safe and healthy.
IMPORANT: Limit or avoid caffeine intake for 12hrs prior to training outdoors to prevent dehydration and heat related injuries.
  • Sunscreen or Rain gear: We will have limited cover and you will be exposed to the weather during all exercises.
  • Comfortable seating: I have folding chairs available, and some of the ranges have picnic tables with bench seats. If, however, you have a favorite stadium pad, or seat cushion, your backside will thank you. If you want to bring your own camping chair for additional comfort, that’s great.
  • Snacks / Lunch: This is an all day (6hr) class. I usually provide a light continental breakfast for classes with 4 or more students. However, you will likely want lunch as we transition from the classroom to the firing line. The range is a LONG way from the nearest convenience store or drive-thru, and the snacks they have for purchase are on par with movie theater snacks.
